How long would it take to travel from New York to Australia by boat?

During the 1930s, how long would it take to travel from New York City to Australia by boat, assuming that the boat would be steampowered?

  1. threesheave says:

Ocean liners of that era typically had cruising speeds between 18 knots and 28 knots. The trip from New York City, NY to Sydney, Australia via the Panama Canal is just a bit over 10,000 nautical miles.

At those speeds it would take a vessel from between 15 and 23 days non-stop for that trip.
